Royston Drenthe: To Buy Or Not To Buy?

A lot of Evertonians have had their say all have different opinions on our on-loanee Royston Drenthe. The Dutchman joined the Blues in the summer transfer window from Spanish giants Real Madrid. The winger has certainly at times shown his abilities on the pitch. But, its what he does off the pitch that has led to a number of concerns from both fans and the staff at Everton.

The most recent chapter in the Drenthe saga was this Saturday when the team for the FA Cup Semi Final was announced without his name in the starting 11 or on the bench. I personally couldn't believe that Drenthe wasn't even included in the squad because he is such a good impact man from the bench and would have been perfect for the Blues to play against Liverpool's poor defencive men. In the next couple of days, the club announced that the Dutchman was not in the squad due to him being disciplined by the club for reasons that they won't reveal. But, on the internet, a number of people have heard loads of different rumours as to why he had to be punished. I've heard the likes of 'he was late for the coach' to the extreme of 'he turned up for training drunk'. We doubt the club will ever reveal the real reason behind their decision and so we may never know.

On the pitch, Drenthe has shown signs of a class player. From his stunning goals at Fulham & QPR to his fantastic speed down the wing. But, have we seen the last of him in an Everton shirt? Some people believe that he wont play for the Blues again, whereas others think he may be available for selection on Sunday against Man Utd. It will all become clear on Friday when Moyes does he pre-match press conference.

But, would you want Drenthe playing for Everton again? More importantly, would you want Everton to sign Drenthe in the summer after his loan period ends?

  1. I'd certainly like to see Royston taken on full-time. You used words like "stunning" and "fantastic" and you're absolutely right to. A major asset going begging at the moment.

  2. I'd like to know the reasons behind all the talk. But he is type of flair player that we sorely need.
